Design and lead processes services that promote the school mission

The first standard of practice in the general standards for systems roles is "Design and lead processes and services that demonstrate that the ultimate outcome is promotion of the school's mission".

Every workshop I run for staff or students starts with the mission and why we are doing this. People get confused, annoyed or check out, if they do not see the big picture and the purpose. That is why it is essential for school leaders to connect their work to the mission of the school.

One clear example of this is the workshop that the DP coordinator and I run for new teachers at the start of every school year. One of the first things we do is connect the school's mission with the IB mission and to help teachers see that it is deeply connected to their practice.
