The fifth systems standard in the General Standards of Practice for Systems Roles is to "Systematically reflect on and learn from practice." Reflection is a core component of learning. Without reflecting we can never fully appreciate what went wrong and what went well.

Before, during, and after each unit, I ask teachers to complete their reflections of their process in MB. This is not busy work or simply a box to check. It is a meaningful process that helps us we continue what works well, and we adjust the aspects of our practice that are not as successful.

Since starting at ISU, I have also implemented student reflections in the MYP Reports. I created a process through which students can reflect on their academic performances, skills, and dispositions, and write about it on our Learning Management System. Students and teachers alike have to learn how to reflect and what a reflection is, so I have created guidelines and models for them.

I also consistently reflect on my leadership. In a PTC Pearl of Wisdom, I reflected on some of the important lessons that I learned from spending too much time and effort on small details. You can watch the video below.
